About Michael O’Kelly

A successful and celebrated fine artist, who learned many of his skills watching Tom train his sister, Michael remains the only living, first-hand witness to the remarkable life and times of Tom Keating and Jane Kelly. In the 1970s, he studied pre-Colombian ethnomusicology at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, in Mexico City, where he later did a three-year apprenticeship with Maestro Rufino Tamayo. He co-produced a retrospective Tamayo exhibition at the Hermitage, in St. Petersburg, as well as national museums in Moscow and Oslo. Scores of finely detailed, stippled-ink illustrations in The Encyclopedia of Ancient Civilizations, from 1980, remain an enduring highlight of his published work. In 2013, Michael wrote, cast, directed and produced the fantasy film docudrama, Live Forever: The Ray Bradbury Odyssey, based on the life of the iconic author, and starring Edward James Olmos, Joe Mantegna, Malcolm McDowell, Hugh Hefner, and Roy Disney.

About Todd Binkley

Having developed a fascination with Tom and Jane from shortly after first meeting Michael in 1993––while curating a show of his paintings at Café Voltaire, Todd’s coffeehouse and art gallery in Ventura, California––he has since spent thousands of hours recording Michael’s first-hand accounts of their stormy adventures, adding depth and new detail through researching them in over 200 newspaper articles, 30 books, countless websites, and distant conversations with over a dozen kind Britons who were happy to share additional memories, new insights and hidden treasures.

Michael and Todd have developed an amazing true story into an unexpected and uniquely compelling drama. The Joker’s Hand will return many to scenes of cherished memories—while introducing multitudes to intriguing realms they’ve never experienced—all while having a laugh and shedding a tear.
